One of my favorite things about this scene isn’t the dialogue, but more of the reactions and the physical cues. Specifically from Mr. Nobley. His aunt is forcing him to participate in a cheesy theatrical, and he really doesn’t want to. He says that it’s humiliating, and I think the reason he says that, aside from the obvious cheesiness of the play, is that the girl he would want to play his love interest is more likely to pick the extremely hunky and attractive actor instead of him. And it’s his own damn fault because he’s been kind of an ass the whole time, and the last girl left is a bag full of crazy. It would be humiliating for him…especially since she too, is lusting after the hunky actor, and it would just be more rejection. His feelings for Jane are apparent when she does choose him, and the look of, “Really, she just chose me over this extremely attractive man?” written all over his face. It’s one of my favorite scenes because it’s the first time that you really see his feelings revealed. The following scene is also a favorite, where Jane asks if they can try not to annoy each other, and he tells her that she doesn’t annoy him, but rather, she makes him nervous. I like that even though she didn’t choose him because she liked him, she chose him because she owed the crazy lady a favor, she really seems to warm up to him. He warms up to her too, and for the rest of the film, you can see him falling for her, and that is why I love this scene. It’s the beginning of the real development of his character, and you kind of fall in love with him too.

Are you making an anything? have you considered:

  • Idris Elba

See I know this pertains to making a movie/play/whatever and his skills as an actor.

But I read ‘making anything’ as ‘crafting’

So now I’m imaging Idris Elba quilting. Building a treehouse. Helping with your cosplay. Starting a garden.
